YOUR CURIOSITY. YOUR PACE. YOUR CRETE.

Whatever your style,
there is a Crete for you.

Mountain safaris, boat trips to secluded coves, walks through dramatic gorges, or an afternoon of local food and wine. There is no single way to experience this island.

Tell me what draws you in. I can help you choose experiences that suit your interests, your pace and the kind of memories you want to take home.

Mountain roads. Open horizons. Golden light.

01 MOUNTAIN SAFARIS

Take the road
less travelled.

Head into the mountains on a safari through rugged landscapes and quiet village roads. Make room for wide-open views, unexpected stops and the glow of the late afternoon.

For the days when curiosity takes the lead.

A different view of the island, from the water.

02 BOAT TRIPS & HIDDEN COVES

A little further
out to sea.

See the coastline from a boat, seek out quieter beaches and pause for a swim in clear water. Some days are best spent with salt on your skin and no hurry to get back.

For a slower day, shaped by the sea.

Walkers following a stream between tall rock walls in a Cretan gorge
On foot, the landscape becomes part of the journey.

03 GORGE WALKS

Walk into
Crete’s wild heart.

Follow the paths between towering rock walls and discover the island one step at a time. I can help you find a walk that suits your experience and the day you have in mind.

For those who like to earn their favourite view.

04 COASTAL TRAILS

Follow the coast.
Find your pace.

Take a trail with the sea beside you, stop where the view asks you to, and leave time for a beach along the way. A simple day outdoors can become the one you remember most.

For fresh air, good company and the joy of being outside.

Friends raising glasses of wine over a table of colourful local dishes
Local flavours taste even better when they are shared.

05 FOOD & WINE TASTING

Get to know Crete,
one taste at a time.

Explore local flavours, make time for a wine tasting and settle around a table worth lingering at. Food is another way to meet a place, and often the warmest.

For curious palates and conversations that last.

Beaches

Every beach in Crete has its own unique character, from palm forests and turquoise lagoons to hidden coves and dramatic rocky landscapes. I recommend visiting as many as possible during your stay, as each one offers a completely different experience.

Loutro

A magical seaside village with no roads, cars, or motorcycles, accessible mainly by boat or on foot. Its peaceful atmosphere, turquoise waters, and waterfront tavernas make it one of the most relaxing destinations in Crete.

Loutro
Loutro
Balos Lagoon

One of the most famous landscapes in Crete, known for its white sand, shallow turquoise lagoon, and breathtaking panoramic views. It can be reached by boat or by car followed by a walk down to the beach.

Balos Lagoon
Balos
Elafonisi Beach

A world-famous beach with shallow turquoise waters and distinctive pink-tinted sand. Its lagoon-like setting makes it especially beautiful, although visiting early is recommended during the busy summer months.

Fotis' tip · Make a day of it

Leave Rethymno early and set aside a full day. Allow around three hours by car each way, depending on traffic and your route. Elafonisi is beautiful but very popular, so arrive early to find a spot before the crowds.

My advice is to enjoy Elafonisi, then continue to nearby Kedrodasos. It is an equally beautiful beach that I recommend for a more relaxed part of the day, away from the busiest stretch.

Finish with traditional Cretan flavours at Neratzoula Taverna. You could leave the beach around 8 pm and head there for dinner, allowing for the drive. Reserve your table beforehand.

Elafonisi Beach
Elafonisi
Preveli Beach

One of the most iconic beaches in Rethymno, famous for its palm forest, river lagoon, and dramatic natural scenery. Reaching the beach requires walking down a steep path with many steps, so comfortable shoes are highly recommended.

Preveli Beach

Kleisidi Beach

A small, secluded beach mainly visited by locals and one of the south coast’s best hidden gems. Its clear blue waters, rocky surroundings, and peaceful atmosphere make it ideal for those looking to escape the crowds.

Kleisidi Beach

Ammoudaki Beach

A beautiful beach near Plakias, known for its crystal-clear waters and relaxed southern-Crete atmosphere. After swimming, enjoy fresh seafood and traditional Cretan dishes at one of the local tavernas overlooking the sea.

Ammoudaki Beach
Amoudaki
Plakias Beach

A long and spacious beach surrounded by impressive mountains and the charming village of Plakias. It is well organized, easy to access, and offers plenty of restaurants, cafés and beach bars for an unhurried day by the sea.

Plakias Beach
Plakias
Kourtaliotiko Gorge

One of Rethymno’s most impressive natural landmarks, surrounded by dramatic cliffs, freshwater springs, waterfalls, and crystal-clear natural pools. Follow the stone steps towards the small chapel of Agios Nikolaos and the river below, where confident swimmers can continue through the exceptionally cold water to discover the hidden waterfall. Wear suitable shoes, bring water shoes and a waterproof phone case, and check the current access and ticket requirements before visiting.

Kourtaliotiko Gorge
Kourtaliotiko Gorge
Rethymno Beach

A long sandy beach stretching along the city’s seafront, just a few steps from the historic centre. Its shallow waters, organized sections, beach bars, restaurants, and lively promenade make it ideal for swimming, sunbathing, and enjoying the atmosphere of Rethymno without leaving the city.

Fotis' tip · Beach days on your doorstep

For a relaxed day on Rethymno Beach, right in front of the apartments, my recommendations for sunbeds and beach service are Olli, DYO Beach, Bora Bora Beach Bar and KABU.

Olli: There is no separate sunbed hire charge, with a minimum spend of approximately €10 per person on food or drinks from the beach service. Find Olli on Google.

DYO Beach, Bora Bora Beach Bar & KABU: There is no separate sunbed charge or minimum spend. You only pay for the food and drinks you order.

No reservation is needed at any of these spots. Simply turn up and choose available sunbeds. These arrangements are based on my local recommendations; please confirm current terms on arrival.

Rethymno Beach
Omprogialos Beach

A small rocky cove near Kefalas in Apokoronas, with clear turquoise water and open sea views. This is a place for a short swim and a pause by the water, rather than a long day on a sandy beach. Entry and exit are over rocks or the waterfront platform, so take care and only swim when conditions are suitable.

Fotis' tip: Allow about an hour as the first stop on Day 5. You may be able to pick up extra water and a snack at the seafront refreshment stop when it is open, but bring your essentials from Rethymno rather than relying on seasonal service.

Seitan Limania Beach

One of Crete’s most spectacular beaches, hidden between dramatic cliffs near Chania. The small shore fills quickly, so arrive early without expecting guaranteed space. Allow around 10–15 minutes for the steep, rocky descent, longer if needed, and extra time for the uphill return. Wear sturdy shoes with grip. There are no sunbeds or umbrellas to hire: bring water, snacks, sun protection and portable shade you can carry safely. Check sea conditions before swimming.

Bali Beaches

A seaside village on the north coast of Rethymno, with sheltered-looking bays, a small harbour and beaches framed by the hills. Bali is a lovely choice for a relaxed afternoon by the water.

Fotis’ tip: After exploring the mountain villages and enjoying lunch at Aetos in Anogeia, choose Bali for an afternoon swim and a relaxed stop at Mambo Beach. This is the coastal alternative to the Skinakas Observatory drive in itinerary 12.

Ligres Beach

A relaxed south-coast escape for a full day of swimming and time by the sea. Bring your beach essentials, settle into your favourite spot and leave plenty of time for a leisurely meal.

Fotis’ tip: Start with coffee at Bikakis, pause in Spili if you wish, and spend the rest of the day here. Ligres Beach Taverna is my choice for lunch or a late meal before returning to Rethymno in the evening.

Food & dining

Rethymno and the rest of Crete offer an exceptional variety of dining experiences, from traditional family tavernas and authentic souvlaki spots to elegant seafood restaurants and modern Cretan cuisine. Most of these restaurants are very popular, so making a reservation is highly recommended, especially during the summer season.

A place to slow down and savour the flavours of Crete. With wooden tables beneath the trees and warm lights illuminating the courtyard, Neratzoula offers the welcoming, local atmosphere I love sharing with my guests. Come for traditional Cretan dishes and an unhurried evening around the table.

Fotis' tip: This is my dinner recommendation after a day at Elafonisi and Kedrodasos. Leave the beach in the evening, around 8 pm if it suits your plans, and make Neratzoula your next stop before returning to Rethymno. Book your table in advance and allow time for the drive when arranging your reservation.

In the Souda area near Plakias, Foinikias Kantina is my choice for a relaxed meal after a day on the south coast. Its breathtaking panoramic views sweep across the sea, bays and mountains of southern Crete. Take your time over Greek flavours and let a day of swimming turn into a leisurely evening around the table.

Fotis' tip: Spend the day at Ammoudi, Ammoudaki or Damnoni, then head towards Plakias and continue to Foinikias Kantina for your meal. It is my suggested food stop for this beach-day route.

Anogeia Village

A mountain village on the slopes of Psiloritis, Anogeia is a lovely place to experience inland Crete. Leave time to walk through the village, pause for a coffee and enjoy its distinctive local character.

Fotis’ tip: Combine your visit with Margarites and Sfentoni Cave, then settle in for a leisurely meal at Aetos Taverna. Walk a little further to Skandali pastry shop for dessert, then choose mountain views at Skinakas or a late swim in Bali.

Skinakas Observatory

High in the Psiloritis mountains, Skinakas combines a dramatic mountain setting with astronomical research. On a clear day, the surroundings offer sweeping panoramic views across Crete.

Fotis’ tip: This is one of my local recommendations for a mountain finish after lunch in Anogeia. Choose Skinakas as an alternative to the beach stop in Bali.

Check weather, road access and official notices before driving up. The final approach is narrow and parking is limited. This is a working observatory; access inside and telescope viewing are restricted to announced public visits, and events can be relocated. Plan a daytime scenic visit only when access is permitted.

My suggestion: allow around half an hour for a stroll and a look at the fountains, or stay a little longer for a coffee. Combine it with a day at Agios Pavlos beach and, if you feel adventurous, the nearby sand dunes.

Meli Ice Cream

Meli is my favourite stop for ice cream on Rethymno's seafront. Their homemade ice cream uses goat's milk from their own farm in Kato Valsamonero, bringing a local connection to a simple holiday pleasure.

Crete at sunset
Crete at sunset

Make it your own.

Crete is more than a destination. It is a feeling that quietly stays with you long after you leave.

It lives in the golden light of the sunset, in the scent of the sea carried through narrow village streets, in the sound of cicadas on warm afternoons, and in the simple pleasure of sharing food beneath the stars.

Here, every experience becomes part of a story. A peaceful cruise along the coastline, a swim in crystal-clear waters, a walk through an ancient town, or a dinner filled with local flavours can turn into a memory you will carry for years. The island invites you to slow down, breathe deeply, and notice the beauty in every small moment.

Whether you come in search of adventure, romance, culture, or rest, Crete welcomes you with open arms and a warmth that feels almost familiar. And when the time comes to leave, you may discover that a part of you remains here, somewhere between the mountains and the sea, waiting for the day you return.
